"Barney" Lindberg

Born 7-13-1924 -- Died 3-7-2005

Bernard "Barney" Lindberg, 80, of Thayer, Mo., son of the late Bernard "Buzz" and Martha Durband Lindberg, was born July 13, 1924, at Evanston, Ill., and died March 7, 2005.

He was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church, member of the Thayer Elks where he served as chaplin. He was a sponsor and coach of Garden Grove Little League and a Boy Scout leader in Garden Grove, Calif.

He served in the Navy from April 20, 1942, to Dec. 18, 1945, seeing action in Asiatic Pacific Campaign, European African Campaign and American Campaign. He was awarded the Good Conduct Medal and Victory Medal. He loved to read, fish, travel and sports, especially the Chicago Cubs.

On Aug. 14, 1948, at Evanston, he married Pat Plunkett and to this union two sons were born. He was a loving and devoted son, husband, father and grandfather.

Survivors include his wife, Pat Lindberg of the home at Thayer; two sons -- Dennis Alan Lindberg and his wife, Coleen, of Thayer, and Michael Arthur Lindberg and his wife, Cindy, of Grant Pass, Ore.; a sister, Barbara Ruth Bittle and her husband, L. Ray, of Enid, Okla.; five grandchildren -- Shawn, Joshua, Meredith, Amanda and Jacob; two nephews -- Jimmy and Jerry Bittle; and a niece, Kathy Long.

He was preceded in death by his father, mother and two brothers -- Lawrence and Reid.

The funeral was March 12 in the Carr-Montgomery Chapel with Judge William Hass officiating. Interment was in the Thayer Cemetery with arrangements under the direction of the Carr-Montgomery Funeral Home of Thayer.
