Austin "Gene" Langston, son of the late Owen John and Dessie Ima Bishop Langston, was born June 3, 1929, at Salem, Ark. He died April 5, 2004, at the age of 74 years.
Gene married Melba Nadine Benton Oct. 9, 1946, and to this union five children were born.
He later married Maezelle B. Thorne Presson on May 27, 2000, at Mammoth Spring, Ark.
Gene spent his working years as husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, truck driver and a cattleman.
He was a member of Salem First Baptist Church and the Teamsters Union of Dayton, Ohio.
Survivors include his wife, Maezelle B. Langston of Salem; two sons -- Garry G. Langston of Madison, Miss., and Terry V. Langston also of Madison, Miss.; three daughters -- Glenda W. Spratt of Little Rock, Jo Kyle Smart of Gilbert, Ariz., and Jill Ann Hill of Henderson, Nev.; a stepdaughter, Judy G. Booker of Thayer, Mo.; a brother, Harold Langston of Salem; two sisters Lorene Weaver of Salem and Nancy Supelvedo of Norfork, Ark.; 14 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Nadine; parents, Owen and Ima; a brother, Donald Wayne Langston; a grandson, James David Olson and a granddaugher, Amberlyn Brooks Hill.
The funeral service was April 8 at Salem First Baptist Church in Salem, Ark., with John Hodges and Tom Stover officiating.
Burial was in Salem Cemetery with arangements under the direction of Barker Funeral Home of Salem, Ark.
Pallbearers were Gary Owen Langston, Cory Langston, Kevin Langston, Josh Hill, Ryan Spratt, Terry Spratt, Chris Spratt, Scott Olson and Kyle Langston.
