THAYER -- The Thayer R-2 School summer program will begin June 2 with courses and activities for students Kindergarten through 12th grade. According to the Thayer High School principal Kevin Hedden, summer school is an excellent way to meet graduation requirements in a variety of ways. He said many students find the pace and the work load of the summer classes allow them to complete a course during the school year they may have failed. "Some students are able to take a class during the summer that they would not be able to schedule during the regular school year," the principal added.

Other students take enrichment classes that are designed to extend the knowledge of the student beyond the level they could obtain in the regular year. Hedden said summer school culminates with a field trip June 27 for all who participate. Hedden urged area students to participate in the program.

High school courses that are available include: math, science, social studies, English, driver's education and lifetime sports.
