A year after posting a third-place finish in the Class 1 State Golf Tournament last year, the Thayer Bobcats ended the 2004 season in the state's top five with a fourth place showing in this year's tourney at Springfield's Deer Lake Golf Course.
The Bobcats shot a two-day total of 684, behind champion Salisbury's 640, Valle Catholic (680) and Gallatin (682).
Brett Ward earned All-State honors with an opening round of 82 May 17, followed by a 73 May 18, for a total of 155, good for third place overall.
The Bobcats climbed from sixth place (346) in opening-round action by shaving seven strokes off their second-day score (338).
Layne Hawkins posted scores of 88 and 83, for a total of 171 for Thayer, while M.J. Clark fired an 88 and 85 for a score of 173.
Coming in with an opening-round score of 88, Cody Hollis shot a second-day 97 for a 185, and Josh Wemlinger posted scores of 100 and 98, totaling 198 for his efforts.
