Harry Wayne Metzger, 85, of Alton, was born Aug. 21, 1919, in Shobiner, Ill., and passed away Jan. 14, 2005, at Shady Oaks Healthcare Center in Thayer.
He was a veteran of World War II, serving with the U.S. Navy.
He was an avid fisherman and hunter and was a member of Many Springs Baptist Church.
Survivors include three children -- Tommy Metzger of West Plains, Mo., Elaine Settle of Virginia and Kim Simmons of Oregon; one sister, Eloise Metzger of Illinois; six grandchildren -- Krista, Whitney, Tomisue, Travis, Tod, and Brandi; five great-grandchildren -- Alena, Stetson, Taylor, Kaylyn, Jakob and Cassandra; and numerous other relatives and friends.
Preceding him in death were his parents, Harry and Myrtle Emerson-Metzger; his wife, June Strobel-Metzger; one son, Timmy Metzger; three grandsons, Brandon and Justin Counts, Greg Settle; and one brother, Donald Metzger.
Services were Jan. 19 at Many Springs Baptist Church with Bro. Wiggs officiating. Interment followed in the Many Springs Cemetery with arrangements under the direction of the Clary Funeral Home of Alton, Mo.
