Mills competes in county spelling bee

Thayer Elementary School was invited to participate in the KY3 for Kids Spelling Bee. The local spelling bee was held for the fifth- and sixth-grade students Feb. 11.

The winner was sixth-grader Brandon Mills. Mills is the son of Alan and Lynette Mills.

The runner-up was sixth-grader Scotia Horton. Horton is the daughter of Valarie and Tommy Kuczek, and Eugene Horton.

Mills competed in a county-wide spelling bee March 4 at Alton Elementary School's Multi-Purpose Building.

The winner will represent Oregon County on the televised KY3 for Kids Spelling Bee to be held April 2 in Springfield. T

The winner of the Springfield spelling bee will receive an all-expense paid trip to compete in the Scripps Howard National Spelling Bee in Washington, D.C.
