On July 7 Laura Hume of Cherokee Village celebrated her 86th birthday by taking her first motorcycle ride.

She attends First United Methodist Church in Cherokee Village and the Rev. Jim West surprised her by asking her to join him up front as the congregation sang the last hymn, "The Battle Hymn of the Republic."

Rev. West then announced to the congregation that Kevin Dienst was going to take her on her first motorcycle ride. "The ride was even more special since everyone knew why I was wearing blue jeans to church," she said.

Kevin and Ann Dienst had brought their Yamaha motorcycle to church so Kevin took Hume on the motorcycle to the Timberline Restaurant in Highland. "The ride was just as exciting as all the festivities that led up to it. Whenever anyone asks me to describe my birthday, I always tell them it was the best I ever had," she said.
