No injuries reported in apartment shooting

Thursday, September 5, 2002

A Salem man was taken into custody Sept. 2 after shots were fired in the Meadows Apartments in Salem.

Salem Police Chief Albert Roork reported that Mike Allen Jr. is in the Fulton County jail in connection with the incident but charges have not yet been filed.

Roork said his department responded to a call that gunshots had been fired at the apartments at 7:10 p.m.

Allen allegedly fired three shots in apartment number four while he was visiting occupants Sheila Owensby and Joey Griggs.

Roork said Allen walked into the apartment with a gun strapped on. While Owensby and Griggs were in the kitchen they heard the shots fired, Roork said.

Officer Butch Blair and Roork noted the bullets exited the front of the apartment and entered an attached utility room of apartment five, which was occupied at the time.

After Allen fired the shots he went to the backside of apartment number one and fired several more rounds, Roork said. One round went through the bedroom window of apartment one and lodged in the ceiling. Roork said it was fortunate nobody was injured.

Roork and Blair escorted Allen, who was in possession of a nine-shot 22-caliber revolver, to the jail at 7:45 p.m. "Allen was extremely intoxicated," Roork said.
