John Billy Caruthers, 82, of Salem, Ark., son of the late Stephen Thomas and Francis M. Cargill Caruthers, was born Feb. 28, 1923, at Union, Ark.
He died March 3, 2005, at Fulton County Hospital in Salem.
He was united in marriage to Melba Dockins Caruthers who preceded him in death. On Nov. 4, 1993, he married Glenna Aline Holder McCullough.
He was employed for 37 years as Chevrolet Safety Engineer at General Motors in Indianapolis, Ind.
He was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include his wife, Aline of Salem; children -- Francis (Jack) Foltz of Evansville, Ind., and Billy (Margaret Smith) Caruthers of Chandler, Ariz.; a step-daughter, Martha Jane (Jim) Falcone of Rolling Meadows, Ill.; a sister, Imogene (Jim) Campbell of Salem; two sisters-in-law -- Eunice Alexander of Mountain Home and Patsy Dockins of New Palestine, Ind.; grandchildren -- Natalie Caruthers, Billy D. Caruthers II, and Jason and Andrea Foltz; a step-grandchild, Tracy (Steve) Spinner; two great-grandchildren -- Codey Martin and Rachel Young; four step-great-grandchildren -- Taylor, Steve, Rebecca and Natalie and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his first wife; two brothers -- William Martin and Ralph Caruthers; two sisters -- Jessie Smith and Irene Brockwill; a brother-in-law, Johnie D. Dockins; and his father and mother.
The service was held at Erlewein Funeral Home in Greenfield, Ind. Burial was in New Palestine Cemetery in New Palestine Ind., with local arrangements under the direction of Cox-Blevins Funeral Home of Salem.
