Mammoth Spring church offers help

Thursday, July 25, 2002

MAMMOTH SPRING -- The First Christian Church of Mammoth Spring recently announced the opening of a food pantry for people in temporary need of assistance.

According to church officials, sudden loss of income, illness, unexpected expenditures, higher than usual utility bills, burnouts and other losses may cause a temporary need for people who are otherwise ineligible for public assistance.

There may be an urgent need for food while a family or person is awaiting being accepted for food stamps and other aid. The church will now provide emergency food packages to meet a family's needs for a few days, to give them time to make more permanent arrangements. A limited amount of other assistance may also be arranged.

Church officials said special helping packages for stranded travelers, transients and others who do not have cooking facilities are available.

Those in need may call the church at 870-625-3516 and leave a message with a number and location where they can be reached. Or they may call 417-264-2528 to speak to someone that can help.
