Ash Flat to celebrate Eaglefest

Eaglefest 2004 will be held at Ash Flat City Park Oct. 2. This year there'll be more fun, food and entertainment. Vendors will serve goodies like funnel cakes, grilled hot dogs, hamburgers cold drinks and fresh-squeezed lemonade.

Free musical entertainment all day will include the Prison Band with country, gospel, and rock-n-roll music. The gospel groups Merry River Boys and the Gateway Cloggers will perform. A local duo, will sing country and gospel songs.

Billy Joe French and his band will perform from 7 p.m. until 11 p.m. and will culminate the day's events with a street dance.

Modern Image Photography will set up in the community center from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. A $12 fee will buy an 8-inch by 10-inch picture. Special orders will be available. Photographers Jerry Collins and Jack Fletcher have over 50 years experience in the photography field.

Show and Shine, a car exhibit will be from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. Vehicles of various makes and models will be on display.

The 5th annual Judged Chili Cookoff contest sponsored by First National Banking Company, will be held. An entry fee of $25 is required. Cash prizes will be awarded to the first, second and third place winners for the best tasting chili. There will be cash prizes awarded for the best decorated first, second and third place booths.

Rules can be picked up at Ash Flat City Hall Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. till 4 p.m. or contestants can send a self addressed stamped envelope to Eaglefest Chili Contest, P.O. Box 456, Ash Flat, AR 72513.

A mechanical bull will be set up for all the cowboys and cowgirls who dare to climb on the back of this beast and ride.

From 10 a.m. until noon there will be kids' games with prizes for the youngsters. Games include wheel-of-fortune, fish bowl game, ring toss and beanbag toss.

Crafters are welcome to set up. A $10 booth space fee is required. Call 994-7324 or drop by Ash Flat City Hall for a booth form.

The Ash Flat Fire Department will hold an open house to educate the public about National Fire Prevention Week. Children's activity books, coloring books and other goodies will be given away at the fire station.

Air Evac is scheduled at approximately 1 p.m. in conjunction with the Spring River Paramedic Ambulance. Ash Flat Fire Department will conduct an auto extraction demonstration approximately approximately 1:30 p.m.

Everyone is welcome and there is no admission fee.
