Welch promoted to Lieutenant Colonel

Brad Welch, son of Mr. and Mrs. Dale Welch of Sparta, Mo., was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel on Feb. 9 at his unit in Darien, Ill., a suburb of Chicago. Welch serves in the U.S. Army Reserve as a full-time Active Guard Reservist with the 416th Engineer Command.

Along with his parents, in attendance were his wife Robyn, son Joseph, and several members of the unit. Serving as the promoting officer was the Deputy Commander General of the 416th, Brigadier General Jimmy Fowler.

Welch is a 1985 graduated of Thayer High School. He earned a bachelor's of science degree in mathematics from Missouri State University in 1990 and a master's degree in engineering management from the University of Missouri-Rolla in 1995. He has served in the U.S. Army for over 17 years and was deployed in 1991 during Operation Desert Storm and most recently in 2003-2004 during Operation Iraqi Freedom.
