Eckman takes fourth in regional hoop shoot

Thursday, April 15, 2004

Emily Eckman, a third grader at Thayer Elementary School, recently came in fourth place at the regional hoop shoot held in Paris, Tenn.

Eckman proceeded to the regional round after winning first place in local competition with other area schools.

After her win at the local level, Eckman advanced to St. Louis to compete in the statewide level.

There, she also took first place to earn a trip to the regionals.

The hoop shoot event is a free throw competition sponsored by the National BPO Elk organization, and locally by the Alton-Thayer Elks Lodge 2545.

This event is the nation's largest amateur sporting competition with over 3 million youngsters from throughout the United States entering last year's field.

Eckman is the daughter of Bob and Rebecca Eckman of Thayer.

Eckman's physical education teacher at Thayer Elementary is Brenda Dixon.
