John W. Snavely, 71, of Ozark, Mo., formerly of Thayer, died Oct. 27, 2004. He was killed in a traffic accident on U.S. Highway 65. The son of Joe Amos Snavely and Emily Stucki Snavely, he was born May 1, 1933, in Norwood, Mo.
He answered the call to the ministry in 1963, pastoring four churches in the Southwest Missouri area over the next 33 years. The last ten years, John was the Pastoral Care Pastor of James River Assembly. He was a veteran of the United States Navy.
Survivors include his wife, Lillian of the home; five children -- Terry Snavely of Branson, Mo., Cheryl Hart, Murfreesboro, Tenn., Matthew Snavely, Double Oak, Texas, Joy Mitchell, Springfield, Mo., and Lori Wassam, Frisco, Texas; 15 grandchildren -- Joshua, Dustin and Preston Snavely, Larisa McPeters, Cody and Taylor Hart, Benjamin, Jenna and Rachel Snavely, Laramie, Cooper and Connor Mitchell, Jordan, Logan and Spencer Wassam; a great-grandchild, Jaden Snavely; a brothers and sisters -- Wilma Easter, Lebanon, Mo., Delta Forrest, Norwood, Mo., Rev. Joe D. Snavely, Springfield, Mo., Alice Kingsland of Mountain Grove, Mo., James Snavely, Springfield, Ilena Bolt, Mountain Grove, Mo., Rev. Jerry Snavely of Springfield; Donna Bennett, Norwood, Mo., and Brenda Bradshaw of Fortson, Ga.
The funeral service was held on Oct. 30 in James River Assembly, Highway 65 and CC., with Pastor John Lindell officiating. Burial was in Thomas Cemetery in Norwood, Mo., with arrangements under the direction of Walnut Lawn Funeral Home.
