Thayer woman charged with sodomy

Thursday, October 28, 2004

OREGON COUNTY -- A Thayer woman has been charged with felony first degree statutory sodomy. According to a report from the Oregon County Sheriff's Office, Jamie A. Madden, 34, of Thayer was arrested Oct. 19. She is in the Oregon County jail at Alton with a bond set at $75,000.

The charges stem from an incident that involved a girl under the age of 14. County Chief Deputy Eric King said the girl accussed Madden of abusing her and provided a five-page written statement to local Department of Human Service (DHS) officials datailing the abuse she said she suffered.

In the statement, she said it began when she was 6 1/2 and lasted until she was about 12 years old. She said the abuse occurred an average of three times a week. She told DHS officials that not one day would go by in which Madden did not hit her with something.

The report said when the girl was about 9 years old she called her grandmother to complain about Madden hitting her. She said her grandmother then called Madden inquiring about the hittings. The girl said after the phone conversation with the grandmother, Madden made her get down on her knees on the kitchen floor and held a gun to her head and told her if she ever told anyone again she would kill her.

On Sept. 28 the girl was examined by a doctor and the report said the doctor found scarring consistent with sexual abuse.

Madden is scheduled to be arraigned in Oregon County Associate Court Nov. 3.
