Merna L. Goodman, 76, of Malta Bend, Mo., died May 8, 2004, at Apple Ridge Care Center in Waverly, Mo.
She was born Jan. 21, 1928, in DeWitt, Mo., the daughter of John Eugene Winfrey and Lizabeth Lexia Goyer Winfrey. On Aug. 3, 1946, she was married to Charles J. Goodman who preceded her in death. She had lived in Malta Bend since 2002 moving there from Mammoth Spring, Ark.
She was a 1946 graduate of Willow Springs High School. She was a member of Antioch Christian Church in Pomona, Mo., and was a homemaker.
Survivors include five sons -- John D. Goodman of Malta Bend, Bobby E. Goodman of Marshall, Mo., Clifford K. Goodman of Thayer, Mo., Martin J. Goodman of Como, Miss., and James D. Goodman of Malta Bend; five daughters -- Donna K. Chevalier of rural Malta Bend, Mo., Barbara E. Bettis of Marshall, Mo., Lea Ann Hammack of rural Elk City, Kan., Penny L. Mitchell of Mammoth Spring, Ark., and Katy J. Meyer of rural Grand Pass, Mo.; a brother, Dale Winfrey of Marshall, Mo.; 25 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and several step- grandchildren and step great-grandchildren, as well as several nieces and nephews.
The funeral was May 11 at Campbell-Lewis Chapel in Marshall, Mo., with the Rev. Darlene Payne officiating. Burial was in the Missouri State Veterans' Cemetery in Higginsville, Mo., with arrangements under the direction of Campbell-Lewis Funeral Home in Marshall.
Pallbearers were Becky O'Donnell, Emmy Zimmerman, Crystal Dedee, Melinda Renfrow, Karla Vaughn and Samantha Mitchell.
Honorary pallbearers were Julie Goodman, Karen Goodman, Amy Duke, Molly Deibel and Amanda Carmack.
Memorials are preferred to the Parkinson's Disease Association.
