Salem racks up fifth straight conference championship

Wednesday, April 25, 2007

Make it five in a row.

And counting.

The Salem Lady Greyhounds wrapped up their fifth straight conference title by sweeping a pair of softball games in Flippin April 16.

First, Salem (14-3, 7-0) blanked the homestanding Flippin Lady Bobcats 2-0 in a pitcher's duel.

Leslie Taylor came out on top of that battle, as she tossed a one-hitter, fanning 13 in the process, to pick up the win for Salem.

Then the Lady Hounds blasted Yellville-Summit 16-0 in a makeup game that was rained out on April 8.

It took Salem just three innings to send the Lady Panthers packing, as Taylor fanned eight, giving the Lady Greyhounds the 3A-1 East crown with a spotless 7-0 mark.

The Lady Hounds pushed past the Thayer Lady Bobcats 17-0 April 17, behind another Taylor victory. She struck out seven of the eight batters she faced, giving up just one hit.

At the dish, Taylor smacked three triples and drove in seven runs in the win.

Salem wasted no time in putting on a show in the 3A-1 East District Tournament at Harrison.

The Lady Greyhounds smashed Valley Springs 12-0 in opening-round action April 20.

Salem scored nine runs in the first inning to cruise to victory.

Taylor logged 10 Ks, while giving up just two hits and no walks en route to the win on the hill.

She also had a three-for-three day at the plate, including a three-bagger.
