New director hired at Carter's

THAYER -- After 16 years serving as the manager for Carter Funeral Home in Thayer, Barbara Johnson has retired.

"I express my appreciation to each and every one who bestowed their trust and confidence in me in handling the final arrangements for their loved ones while I was employed at Carter Funeral Home Inc.," Johnson said. "I have enjoyed my 16 years working with so many families. I will miss each of them. However, all good things must end. I have no specific plans for retirement. I do plan to enjoy it."

Nathan Ogden has been hired as the manager/director at Carter's. He is originally from the Wirth area and has 10 years in the funeral home field.

"The funeral business is not new to Ogden. He is a licensed funeral director in Arkansas and Missouri," Johnson said.

Ogden is married to the former Tammy Roberts of the Couch/Bilmore area. She is a math teacher at West Plains High School and SMSU. The couple has three children Forrest, 9, Malorie, 5, and Hayden, 4.

"Although I live in West Plains now, this community has always been home to me. Serving the people in this area is like serving my own family," Ogden said.

Johnson will retire to the family farm at Alton she shares with her husband, Don. The Johnsons have two grown sons and three grandchildren.
