Christmas break-in nets computer, cash

Thursday, January 3, 2002

On Christmas morning it was apparent that all was not quiet the night before at the Hillhigh Hotel and Spa in Horseshoe Bend due to a burglary.

An employee opened the resort at 7 a.m and noticed the door to the back room where the money was kept had been kicked in. She also noticed things were arranged differently around the desk area. A Gateway computer and an undisclosed amount of cash were missing.

According to Horseshoe Bend Police Chief Fred Mitchell, there was no point of entry or forced entry.

Mitchell's theory is either someone had a key to the resort or the burglar was hiding in the resort when it closed Christmas Eve night.

Lt. Samuel Ray of the Horseshoe Bend Police Department is the investigating officer who gathered evidence at the scene and was able to obtain fingerprints.

Mitchell said they have two suspects, but no arrests have been made at this time.
