MAMMOTH SPRING -- The art of creating and using primitive stone tools were demonstrated as flint knappers from across the country gathered at Mammoth Spring State Park June 18, 19 and 20. Knappers showed their creative skills and wares to over 600 visitors during the weekend.
Visiting Arkansas State Park personnel presented educational programs throughout the day Saturday. Programs included: Native Plants of the Ozarks, Loomless Weaving; Pinch Pot Creations and The Wonderful World of Gourds.
The knap in is an annual event held at the park the third weekend in June. In October Mammoth Spring State Park also presents a Knap In Workshop for beginning flint knappers.
