OREGON COUNTY -- Last month in recognition of her service to senior citizens of Oregon County, the USDA Rural Development office in West Plains presented Mary Ann Holman of Alton with a plaque. Rural Developer manager Danny Campbell presented Holman, who is an employee of the Southwest Office on Aging, the honor because she has worked with the office to obtain loans and grants could be used in improving the quality of life and living conditions of Oregon County's low income elderly citizens by providing decent, safe and sanitary housing. Campbell said Holman has submitted 40 applications. Eleven of these applications have been funded for a total of $75,000. Six applications will be funded and other are still in application stages.
Holman that day also received congratulations from U.S. Rep. Jo Ann Emerson in a letter. "It is with a great deal of pleasure that I join USDA Rural Development to recognize you for your many efforts by partnering with that entity to help improve the living conditions for many of the area's elderly". Emerson wrote, :Your partnership with them has greatly improved the quality of life for many senior citizens by making it possible for them to have quality, safe and sanitary housing."
