109th Old Soldiers Reunion starts

MAMMOTH SPRING -- The 109th Old Soldiers, Sailors, Marines and Air Force Reunion hosted annually by the Mammoth Spring Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7831 is scheduled to begin Aug. 5 and run through Aug. 10 at the Mammoth Spring State Park.

Several special events are scheduled throughout the reunion starting with an amateur talent show at the depot on Monday and Tuesday evenings starting at 7 p.m. Monday night will be for children 14 and under. Tuesday will be for those 15 and over. No preregistration is needed. Those wishing to be in either contest should be at the depot between 6:15 and 7 p.m. each evening. Prizes will be awarded in the amount of $75 for first place; $50 for second; and $25 for third place.

On Wednesday night an old fashioned southern gospel sing will be held at the depot starting at 7 p.m. All the churches in Mammoth Spring are invited to participate.

Thursday will be the annual lip sync contest at the depot at 8 p.m. sponsored by K-Kountry 95. Persons wanting to enter this event should call the radio station at 417-264-7211 or 264-9595.On Firday and Saturday night there will be country music at the depot starting a 7 p.m.

The Civil War encampment will be open to the public at 9 a.m. on Saturday and the re-enactors skirmish will begin at 2 p.m. on Saturday. There will be tours of the encampment, drills and canon firing demonstrations.

Kid's day will be on Saturday beginning at 1 p.m. A drawing for two bicycles, compliments of the VFW, will be at 4 p.m. The VFW Ladies Auxillary will hold its annual cedar chest drawing and a chance on $100 grocery give-away at 10 p.m. The carnival will have armband night each evening between 6 and 10 p.m. Bingo will start nightly at 7 p.m. All performers and venders are welcome.
