Horseshoe Bend Mayor Bob Barnes gave residents some exciting news at the Aug. 20 city council meeting.
Barnes said a manufacturing industry called Lakeside Machine is making plans to move into the area.
This Pound, Wis., based company founded in 1997 by Eric Graetz, manufactures high quality, working models of half scale replica firearms.
The plant will be located on 16 lots -- an approximately three acre area -- in the Horseshoe Bend Industrial Park along Highway 354.
During the Aug. 20 meeting, council members unanimously voted to authorize the sale of the lots to the company for $8,500.
Barnes said Graetz initially became interested in bringing his business to Horseshoe Bend because of less expensive property taxes. However, his parents live in Clinton and his brother is making plans to move to Wiseman, so Graetz and his wife are also planning to move to the area once the new facility is established, Barnes said.
"I think (Graetz) will be a really great asset. This is a good manufacturing industry that will provide quality jobs," Barnes said. "Hopefully, once (Lakeside Machine) is up and running, other companies will follow."
Barnes said Graetz is planning to hire 8-12 employees when production starts, and plans are for the plant to be in operation within a year.
