Repertory Theater of the Ozarks (RTO) will present a "Salute to Broadway" at RTO's WhistleStop Theater Labor Day weekend, Friday, Aug. 31, Saturday, Sept. 1, and Sunday, Sept 2. Show times are 7:30 p.m. on Friday and Saturday and 2 p.m. on Sunday. The theater is located in Mammoth Spring, Ark., on Highway 63 South.
"Salute to Broadway" has been in production since June and features many of RTO's "Chicago" cast and several newcomers. Starring in "Salute to Broadway" are song and dance man, J.R. Briggs of Pocahontas, Ark.; singers and dancers Janie Crews of Springfield, Mo; Barbara Horne of Ravenden, Ark; Felicia Jennings of Thayer, Mo; Allison Carter of Thayer; Lacy Cozort of Thayer; Jeaneanne Castell of South Myrtle, Ark; Howard Elliott of South Myrtle; Xander Farris of Thayer; Bryan Baker of Thayer; and Master of Ceremonies Jim Peebles of Thayer. New to the RTO stage for this production are Katie Gerdes and Dawn Stover McPherson, both soloists, and both of Thayer, Mo.
This fast paced musical revue shows the RTO company off in solo and company songs from Broadway hits over the years. Hit shows tunes will be featured including songs from the '40s, '50s, '70s, '80s and today.
Tickets are $8 in advance for adults and $6.50 for students. At the door tickets are $10 and $8. RTO is a non-profit regional community theatre based in Mammoth Spring. Founded in 2003, RTO opened with "Cat on a Hot Tin Roof," and has presented productions of "My Three Angels," "Seven Year Itch," "Odd Couple" and "Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?" RTO's first musical, "Hank Williams: Lost Highway" was presented in 2005, followed by productions of "CATS" mad the original musical "Dark Hoedown" in 2006, and "Chicago" earlier this summer. RTO has also presented productions of "The Christmas Carol," "Little Women" and "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory."
