Thayer alumni/homecoming activities set for next week

THAYER -- The Thayer Alumni Association has announced the activities planned for the 2002 Thayer High School homecoming and Alumni Association reunion. Homecoming weekend is scheduled for Oct. 4 and 5.

According to alumni association member Bill Hass, the alumni association would like to extend a special invitation to the following classes: 1927, 75th anniversary; 1932, 70th anniversary; 1937, 65th anniversary; 1942, 60th anni-versary; 1947, 55th anniversary; 1952, 50th anniversary; 1957, 45th anniversary; 1962, 40th anniversary; 1967, 35th anni-versary; 1972, 30th anniversary; 1977, 25th anniversary; 1982, 20th anniversary; 1987, 15th anniversary; 1992, 10th anni-versary; and 1997, 5th anniversary.

The activities will begin with the homecoming parade at 2 p.m. at the Thayer Elementary School, and proceed down Chestnut Street through the downtown business district.

The crowning of the 2002 Homecoming Queen will occur at 6 p.m. at Bozman Field and kick-off of the football game will be a 7 p.m.

The game pits the Bobcats against the Ava Bears. The alumni ask all who plan to attend to wear green and white and be prepared to cheer the Bobcats to a victory.

There will be drop-in reception for alumni and guests following the football game in the high school cafeteria. Alumni are asked to bring their Bobcat memorabilia and memories. Refreshments will be served.

Mighty Mite football will kick off alumni/homecoming weekend activities Oct. 5 with crowning of the Mighty Mite Football Queen at Bozman Field. There will be three games played that day starting at 10 a.m., with the crowning of the queen happening between the first and second game. For more information regarding the Mighty Mite activities call Bob Eckman (class of 1972) or Mike Crase at 264-7211.

Following the Mighty Mite activities will be the annual Thayer High School Alumni Football Game also at Bozman Field. Players' equipment will be released Saturday starting at 9 a.m. at the men's locker room at the school.

Hass said liability forms must be signed, and the registration fee of $25 plus a $125 refundable deposit must be paid prior to receiving the equipment. For more information or to register to play contact Coach Billy Webber (class of 1983) at 264-7261.

The Thayer Alumni Association dinner will begin at 6:30 p.m. Oct. 5 in the Thayer High School cafeteria. All members and guests of the alumni association are invited to attend. Hass said the dinner will be pot- luck with the meat and bread provided. Those attending the dinner are asked to bring a covered dish of a salad, vegetable or dessert. There will be a short membership meeting conducted during the dinner. The alumni event will continue with members and guests being given an opportunity to remain in the gym to visit. There will be music and refreshments provided.

Hass said the association would like to extend a special invitation to those classes who are celebrating a reunion to attend all of the events and invite those class members to sit together as a group at the football game Friday night and the alumni dinner on Saturday night.

Alumni dues of $10 will be collected during the football game and reception Friday night . Dues may be prepaid at the Sunset Beauty Salon or Hass Law Office. The alumni dinner is free to all members who have paid their dues and will cost $5 for all non-members including non-member spouses and guests.

The Alumni Association Board of Directors for 2001-02 are: Betty (Pierce) Morris class of 1957, president; Billy Ray (Eder) Mooney, class of 1955, vice president; Brenda (Paulette) Smith, class of 1975, treasurer; Regina (Honeycutt) Caldwell, class of 1980, secretary; Andrea Richter, class of 1986; and Bill Hass, class of 1983.
