Jesse Dowdy, 79, of Mammoth Spring, the son of the late Otto and Lourana Bell Dowdy, was born Jan. 8, 1925, at Mammoth Spring and died June 21, 2004, in St. John's Regional Center in Springfield, Mo.
Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Dowdy of the home; two sons -- Donald Dowdy of Lee's Summit, Mo., and Danny Dowdy of Blue Springs, Mo.; a stepson, Richard Burlingame and wife, Judy, of Independence, Mo.; two stepdaughters -- Linda Burlingame of Eldorado, Illinois, and Brenda Hunter and her husband, Owen, of Kansas City, Mo.; a brother, Johnny Dowdy of Koshkonong; three sisters -- Tresie Michaels of Mammoth Spring, Ruby Hollis of Thayer and Lora Mae Abney of Thayer; 12 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren; and many nephews and nieces.
His father and mother and a stepson preceded him in death.
The funeral was June 23 in the Carr-Montgomery Chapel with Gene Boren officiating. Interment was in the Moten Cemetery with arrangements were under the direction of the Carr-Montgomey Funeral Home of Thayer.
