Damon Sutherland, 88, of Mammoth Spring, formerly of Camp, Ark., son of the late Cleveland Theodore Sutherland and Simmie Mae Sullivant Sutherland, was born May 11, 1916, in Camp and died June 24, 2004, at St. John's Medical Center in Springfield, Mo.

He married Ollie May Holloway in 1938. She preceded him in death Dec. 6, 1977, and on Feb. 6, 1983, he married Evelyn Settlemoir Turner in Thayer. He was a farmer and an avid gardener. He was a member of the Church of Christ and attended services in Thayer.

Survivors include his wife, Evelyn, of the family home; his children -- Don Sutherland and wife, Patty, of Oklahoma City, Okla., Gayle Cozort and husband, Norman, of Thayer, Caroline Sims and husband, Roy, of West Plains, and Dan Sutherland and wife, Anna, of Camp; his stepchildren -- Jerry Turner and wife, Mary, Bob Turner and wife, Rita, and Jan Wood and husband, Andy, all of Mammoth Spring, Judy Smith and husband, Don, of Thayer and Pat Welch and husband, Dale, of Sparta, Mo., a sister, Dixie Faye Allen of Camp; a sister-in-law, Edith Sutherland; 14 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; 12 step-grandchildren; 17 step-great-grandchildren; and nieces; and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his first wife; a grandson, David Darby; a great-granddaughter, Odrianna Sutherland; a sister, Vera Reynolds; a brother, R.T. Sutherland; and his father and mother.

The funeral was June 27 at Thayer Church of Christ with burial in Camp Cemetery. Arrangements were under the direction of Cox-Blevins Funeral Home of Salem, Ark.

Pallbearers were grandsons -- Damon Bowling, Brian Sutherland, Doug Cozort, Thomas Sutherland, Jess Sutherland, Michael King, Ryan King, Nickolas Allen, Richard Rudd, Paul Foster.

Honorary pallbearers were all grandsons -- Ralph Ball, Kelly Wood, Thomas Wood, Kerry Welch, Brad Welch, Donnie Callahan, James Reed, Brad Armstrong, Ben Sims, Tom Sims, Michael Turner, R.W. Ball, Perry Turner and Jeremy Turner.
