Samual "Sammie" E. Lyons, 71, of Ash Flat, Ark., died Oct. 5, 2004, at Eastern Ozarks Regional Health in Cherokee Village, Ark.
Born Aug. 28, 1933, in Lowell, Kan. he was the son of Wilmer Eugene Lyons and Rosalee Brittle. He graduated from Riverton, Kan., High School in 1951. He served in the United States Navy Submarines for 22 years aboard the USS Cusk, USS John Marshall, USS George Marshall and USS Seawolf. He also retired from Hartford Steam Boiler Inspection and Insurance Co. in 1990, and as a chief boiler inspector for the state of Arkansas in 2002.
He married Karen Harms Jan. 9, 1981, in St. Louis, Mo. He also has two sons -- Chris and Todd Lyons; a brother, Wilmer Leroy Lyons; and a sister-in-law, Elisabeth Lyons.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Neil Lyons.
The funeral was Oct. 8 at First Baptist Church in Cherokee Village with Larry White and Freeman Colley officiating. A graveside service was Oct. 9 at Pence Cemetery in Baxter Springs, Kan., with local arrangement by Heath Funeral Home, Oak Hill Chapel of Hardy.
Pallbearers were Delmer Wetering, George Harlow, Jerry Van, William Walderstate, Harold Gordan and Lee Nichols.
Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church of Cherokee Village, Ark., or to the American Heart Association.
