Dale Benton Bassham, 57, of Hardy died Oct. 8, 2004, at St. Bernard's Regional Medical Center in Jonesboro.
He was born Dec. 17, 1946, in Moko, Ark., the son of Ernest Benton Bassham and Mary Agnes (Rogers) Bassham. He married Debby Wood Dec. 9, 1971, in Parkin, Ark.
Bassham was a veteran of the United States Air Force where he served as a staff sergeant, and was also in the National Guard. He was a member of Masonic Lodge 432 in Hardy.
He was a retired teacher. He taught at Thayer, Mo., for three years and at Highland High School for 24 years. He taught social studies and was a counselor.
He was a deacon at New Hope Baptist Church in Hardy.
Survivors include his wife, Debby, of the home; two sons and daughters-in-law -- Brett and Melissa Bassham, and Jared and Laura Bassham, all of Jonesboro; a brother and sister-in-law, Russell and Linda Bassham of Hardy; a sister and brother-in-law, Carol and James Bates of Hardy; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Roy and Helen Wood of Parkin; two sisters-in-law -- Juliene and John Busby of Forrest City, Ark., and Annie Sue Wood of Jonesboro; and many other relatives and friends.
The funeral was Oct. 11 at New Hope Baptist Church, with Troy Harvey officiating. Burial followed in the Wirth Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to New Hope Baptist Church.
