AREA -- Totals are in at all area schools in Oregon County and in the Mammoth Spring School District.
At Alton Elementary School, there were 384 students the first day of school last year compared to 378 this year. In the junior high at Alton, there were 126 students registered the first day of school. This is compared to 118 the first day of school last year. At Alton High School there were 222 students registered the first day of school this year. Last year the first day of school count was 238.
At Couch School, Superintendent Rolla Fraley said last year elementary enrollment the first day of school was 117. This year enrollment as of Sept. 28 was down a little at the elementary school to 97 students. High school enrollment at Couch last year the first day of school was 114. This year high school enrollment is up at the school to 130 students. There are also 49 students who attend the school from Gatewood and Lone Star School Districts, which have no high schools. Last year there were 39 students from other districts who attended the school.
In the Koshkonong School District, on the first day of school last year there were 137 students enrolled in the elementary school. This year there were 132 students enrolled the first day of school. At Koshkonong High School last year, the first day of school enrollment was 187 at the high school. This year, it was 189 students.
At Mammoth Spring High School last year on the first day of school there were 185 students enrolled in the school. At Mammoth Spring Elementary School there were 231 students enrolled the first day of school last year. This year there are 219 students enrolled at the elementary school and 205 at the high school.
Enrollment figures for the first day of school at Thayer Elementary School for this year and last year were not available. On Sept. 29, 2003, the enrollment at the school was 342. On Sept. 29, 2004, enrollment at Thayer Elementary school was 349. Enrollment at Thayer High School has increased from last year. The first day of school last year showed 288 junior high and senior high students. The 2004 first day of school count at the high school was 310.
