Virginia L. (Jenny) McCartney was born Sept. 2, 1931, in Mammoth Spring, Ark., the daughter of George and Ruth Charlston Ball. She died Sept. 2, 2005 at the age of 74. She married Darryl E. McCartney on June 21, 1958, in Mammoth Spring. She was a public school teacher and traveled with her husband throughout his military career.

She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church and attended Prestonwood Baptist Church of Plano, Texas.

Survivors include her son, Jeff McCartney, and his wife, Kelly, of Tallahassee, Fla.; two daughters, Stephanie "Sam" Foster-Erler and her husband, Fred Erler III of Dallas, Texas, and Dara Gee and husband, Lane, of Lawton, Okla; eight grandchildren, Stacy, Clint and Tanner Gee all of Lawton, Jeffrey and Randi McCartney of Tallahassee, Ted and John Foster of Dallas, and Christopher Erler of Dallas; three brothers, George Gray Ball and his wife, Karen, of Jeffersonville, Ind., Buddy Ball and his wife, Virginia, of Raytown, Mo., and Robert Ball and his wife, Sharlene, of Hialeah, Fla.

She was preceded in death by he parents; her husband; and a sister, Betty DiEsposti.

Funeral services were Sept. 7 in Carr-Montgomery Chapel in Thayer with Bro. Robert Ball officiating. Burial was in River-side Cemetery in Mammoth Spring with arrangements by Carr-Montgomery Funeral Home of Thayer, Mo.
