Hulda Marie Michener, of Mt. Ida, Ark., formerly of Viola, Ark., was born Sept. 14, 1914, in McGregor, N.D. the daughter of Axel Hawinkson and Freda Ostlund Hawkinson. She died Sept. 12, 2005, at St. Joseph Hospital in Hot Springs, Ark., at the age of 90 years.
She was united in marriage to Ernest Clair Michener on Sept. 28, 1935, in Sisseton, S.D. To this union two sons were born. She was a mother and a homemaker. She was of the Lutheran faith. She was a long time resident of Viola until she became unable to live alone. She moved to Montgomery County, Ark., where she spent the last 12 years near her son, Loren.
Survivors include her sons, Duane (Beverly) Michener of Cottage Grove, Minn., and Loren (Cleda) Michener of Norman, Ark.; her sister, Lillian Hanson of Seattle, Wash.; her grandchildren, Lisa Spaulding of Bolivar, Mo., Lt. Michael Michener of Laughlin Air Force Base, Del Rio, Texas, Cheryl Rogers of Texarkana, Ark., Karen Lane of Naperville, Ill., and Alan Michener of Redondo Beach, Calif.; six great-grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, two brothers, Leonard and Melvin Hawkinson and her father and mother.
The funeral service was held Sept. 16 at the Cox-Blevins Chapel in Salem with burial following in the Viola Cemetery. Arrangements were under the direction of Cox-Blevins Funeral Home of Salem.
