School bells will ring soon

AREA -- Classes will begin at Alton School Aug. 14 with a full day of classes. Open house has been scheduled at the school Aug. 21 from 6 to 7:30 p.m

David McQuerter is the new junior/senior high principal at Alton. April Mills has been hired as the new social studies teacher at the school and John Wright is the new high school math teacher. Ruth York will take over the special education duties this year at Alton High School.

New lunch prices have been set this year for the Comets. Student breakfast will be 75 cents; lunch, $1.20; adult breakfast, $1; adult lunch, $1.60; and extra milk will be 25 cents.

At the elementary school Joby Steel has been hired as principal. Gloria Corley will be the new elementary school counselor. Lisa McElmurry will teach third grade and Anne Oesch will be a new fifth grade teacher at Alton Elementary.

New lunch prices have also been set at the elementary school. Student breakfast will be 75 cents; student lunches, $1.10; adult breakfast, $1; adult lunch, $1.60; and extra milk will be 25 cents.

The Couch Indians will begin their school year Aug. 18 with a full day of classes starting at 8:04 a.m. and dismissing at 2:54 p.m.

An open house is planned at Couch School Aug. 28.

New employees this year at the school will be: Joshua Alexander, second grade; Rachel Young, sixth grade; Donald Blanchard, social studies; Tommy Lowery, business; Jason Qualls, P.E. and boys basketball coach; and Linda Stotts, head cook.

Teacher work days at Couch School will be Aug. 14-15.

School in the Koshkonong School District will begin Aug. 20.

Teacher work days for the Bluejays are scheduled for Aug. 18-19.

An open house has been set at the school for Aug. 19 from 5 to 7 p.m.

Perry Dobson from Manes has been hired as the new superintendent at Koshkonong.

Mammoth Spring School will start this year the same as all Arkansas schools, Aug. 18. It will be a full day of classes from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.

New teachers this year at Mammoth Spring School are Crystal Newberry, high school math; Joy Underwood, high school computer lab and business; Janet Smoot, special education; and Lynda Greene, art and medical professions.

According to Mammoth Spring High School Principal Brain Davis, "health professions" is a new fourth vocational track that starts this year. He said it will give students first hand use of medical equipment and technology.

Thayer Bobcats will go back to classes Aug. 20. Classes will be from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. High schools students may pick up their schedules at the school Aug. 14.

Orientation for students entering seventh grade will be Aug. 18 at 7 p.m. in the high school gym.

Teacher orientation and teacher workshop days will be Aug. 18-19.
