Traffic stop brings drug charges

Thursday, June 9, 2005

A Mississippi man was charged with two drug offenses May 28 after a traffic stop near the Many Islands Campground in Fulton County.

Max Benton McKinney, 24, has been charged with possession of a controlled substance, methamphetamine with intent to deliver, a class Y felony; and possession of drug paraphernalia with intent to use, a class C felony.

Cpl. Ronnie Stewart of the Arkansas State Police said he found a quantity of methamphetamine, weighted scales and other drug paraphernalia inside McKinney's vehicle.

During a post-Miranda interview at the Fulton County Sheriff's Department, McKinney admitted to possessing methamphetamine and having a drug problem, according to Brian Sanderson, investigator with the 16th Judicial District Drug Task Force.

Sanderson said McKinney denied manufacturing or selling methamphetamine.

McKinney is currently being held in the Fulton jail in lieu of a $25,000 bond. He is slated to appear in Fulton County Circuit Court June 6.
