Helen Berniece Smith, of Salem, Ark., daughter of the late Roy Wood and Olla Mae Stone White was born May 28,1937, in Oklahoma City, Okla.
She departed this life Sept. 23, 2004, at Salem at the age of 67 years.
Smith spent her working years as a social activity director for a nursing home. She was a loving person to everyone who knew her and truly enjoyed helping others.
She was a member of the Salem First Baptist Church.
She leaves to mourn her passing two sons -- Michael Powers of El Dorado, Ark., and Jackson Powers and wife, Rhonda, of Cartersville, Ga.; three daughters -- Gayla Nichols of Blanchard, Okla., Rebecca Bull and husband, Trey, of Salem and Karol King (baby girl) and husband, Bo, of Fultondale, Ala.; brother, Don White of Winterhaven, Fla.; eight grandchildren -- Ryan Powers, Erin Powers, Jordan Powers, April Powers, Jay Powers, Angela Nichols, Jeremy Luster and Joshua Powers; two great-grandchildren -- Tyler and Corey Luster; and many other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers -- Roy and Bill White; two sisters -- Dixie Barnett and Betty Jo Norris; and a daughter-in-law, Karen Powers.
The funeral service was Sept. 25 at the Barker Funeral Home Chapel in Salem, Ark., with Bro. John Hodges officiating. Interment followed in the Wiseman Cemetery with arrangements under the direction of Barker Funeral Home of Salem.
Pallbearers were Joshua Powers, Ryan Powers, Doug Zinc, Jason Batterton, Dowl Godwin and Johnny Trusley.
