Lady Bobcats enjoy busy summer on hardwoods

Thursday, September 18, 2003

The Thayer Lady Bobcat basketball team participated in a team camp at Licking in June and August to get ready for the upcoming season.

The Lady Cats posted a 6-3 record in the August camp as they played nine games in 30 hours.

The Lady Cats started with a 45-43 overtime win over Brashear, the defending Class 1 state champion with a record of 28-2 last year.

Next up, the Lacy Cats beat the number two Class 1 team from last year, Chilhowee, by a score of 29-24, followed by wins over Sullivan, Sacred Heart Sedalia, Bourbon and NW House Springs.

St. James beat Thayer 38-37 in the tourney semi-finals.

Thayer also lost to Lutheran/St. Charles 36-34 in overtime, and to Rogersville 41-39.

Members of the Lady Bobcats also worked on their games this summer by attending other camps and playing AAU ball.

Sarah Caldwell attended the Lyon Lady Pipers' Camp in Batesville.

Megan Underwood attended the Drury Camp and played on the Arkansas 16-and-under AAU squad.

Summer Jones attended the Drury Camp with Underwood, while Lashonda Horton attended the SMSU Grizzly Camp and played on the Mountain Home AAU team.
