COUCH SCHOOL -- Several Couch School students gave back to their community this summer by tutoring students during Gatewood R-111's Summer School Program.
A+ students who attend high school at Couch gave up some leisurely summer hours during June to help teachers at the school instruct in a variety of subjects and activities. The Couch A+ students were also documenting required hours for A+ eligibility.
All A+ students, in order in order to be eligible for A+ funding, must log a least 50 hours of unpaid tutoring or mentoring. Several of the students logged several hours over their 50 required hours because they said it was such a fun experience.
Gatewood School Principal Kenny Hunt said he could not say enough good about the A+ Program. He said although he and his teachers were a little concerned about having so many high school students on the elementary school campus, the experience for both teachers and students was positive and he looks forward to more A+ students coming and tutoring for the summer school program next year.
