BB ROAD -- Approximately 170 meals were served at the BB Road Volunteer Fire Department and Community Center barbecue Sept. 27. "This was the best we've had in years," said Darlene Rogers, events coordinator. Carry-out meals and the new salad bar were a big success.

Rogers said the following volunteers helped prepare and serve the barbecued pork: Dale Johnson, Sterling and Darlene Rogers, John Weiss, Edgar and Jean Wilson, Laverne Cockman, Rebecca and Wendall Williams, Dale and Earlene Williams, Wanda Johnson, Audrey Purcell, Opal Johnson, Nan Hall and Mary Ellen Williams.

Baked beans, salads, pies and cakes were prepared by more friends of the fire department than they can list. "Special thanks to all of you," said Rogers. "If I missed anyone, please forgive me."

Jennifer Wilson won the quilt made by Nadine Langley of Alton. Langley donated quilts to both the BB Road and Alton fire departments after they battled a fire at her home. Door prizes were handed out throughout the evening.

Door prizes were donated by the following businesses: Alton Auto Parts, Alton Bank, Benita's Café, Cassandra's Beauty Shop, Eleven Point River Canoe Rental, Grandma's Kitchen, Greatle's Beauty Shop, Homefront Transfer and T-Shirt Shop, Hufstedler's Canoe Rental, Jeannie's Craft and Variety Store, Mills Feed, Movie Central, Myers Pharmacy, Quick Connection, Radio Shack, Rock n Oak, Simpson's Hardware, The Flower Cart and Young's Produce, all of Alton, and Mammoth Spring Florist. Williams Greenhouse of Alton, provided floral decorations, Thayer McDonalds provided plastic cups, and Oregon County Trash provided trash removal after events at the community center.
