The Thayer High School Alumni Association has scheduled Thayer Homecoming 2003 Oct. 17 and 18, and extends an invitation to the following classes: 1928 75th anniversary; 1933 70th anniversary; 1938 65th anniversary; 1943 60th anniversary; 1948 55th anniversary; 1953 50th anniversary; 1958 45th anniversary; 1963 40th anniversary; 1968 35th anniversary; 1973 30th anniversary; 1978 25th anniversary; 1983 20th anniversary; 1988 15th anniversary; 1993 10th anniversary, and 1998 5th anniversary.Activities begin with the Homecoming Parade scheduled to begin at 2 p.m. at the Thayer Elementary School and proceed east down Chestnut Street through the downtown business district. All classes celebrating a reunion are encouraged to enter a float or have their classmates appear in the parade."Big" John Wrenfrow will provide a pulled pork barbecue dinner for $5 a plate starting at 4:30 p.m. at Bobcat Stadium. This will include the meal, barbecue beans and slaw. Activities continue with the crowning of the 2003 homecoming queen at 6 p.m. at Louis Bozman Field at Bobcat Stadium. The 2003 homecoming football game kickoff is at 7 p.m. and pits the Bobcats against the Cabool Bulldogs. Classes celebrating an anniversary may arrive early and sit together with their classmates. Alumni are asked to wear green and white and be prepared to cheer the Bobcats on to victory.There will be a catered drop-in reception hosted by the alumni association celebrating its 50th anniversary for all Thayer High School Alumni Association members and guests immediately following the football game at the Thayer High School cafeteria. Alumni are invited to bring Bobcat memorabilia and memories.The 2003 Mighty Mite football homecoming game and queen crowning will begin at 10 a.m. Oct. 18 at the Thayer High School football field. Players' equipment will be released beginning at 9 a.m. Saturday at the men's locker room at Thayer High School.The annual Thayer High School alumni dinner will begin at 7 p.m. Saturday in the Thayer High School cafeteria. All members and guests of the alumni association are invited to attend. The dinner will be potluck and the meat and bread course will be provided. Persons attending are requested to bring either a covered dish or a salad, a vegetable dish or a dessert. There will be a short membership meeting conducted during the dinner. The alumni event will continue with members and guests being given the opportunity to remain in the gymnasium to visit.Entertainment will be provided by saxophonist Kim Park (class of 1973) and the Southern Dialect Band whose members include Beau Risner, Logan King, Matt Martin and Dusty Adams, all students of Thayer High School.Alumni association dues will be collected at the football game Friday night and at Thayer High School prior to the alumni dinner. Dues are $10. The alumni dinner is free to all members who have paid their dues and costs $5 for non-member spouses and guests.
