Welcome home celebration planned for local Marines

Thursday, October 9, 2003

Welcoming home three Marines from Iraq is part of the day of celebration planned at the Friendship Baptist Church Oct. 12. The church, which is located at 32 Liberty Hill Road in Highland, will also be celebrating its 13th anniversary with special speakers, singing and other activities during the day.

Lance Corporals Timothy Praught of Poughkeepise, Curtiss Scott of Mammoth Spring, and Joshua Spray of Ash Flat are active members of Friendship Baptist Church. They have been serving with the 3rd Battalion/23rd Marines First Division, First Marines Expeditionary Force in Operation Iraqi Freedom. The men spent most of their deployment in the Wasit province, primarly in the city of Al-Kut. The church will honor the three men during the Sunday morning service which begins at 9:30 a.m.

Guest speaker of the services will be Dr. Jack Thompson of Oklahoma City. Thompson has pastored and served as an evangelist in Baptist churches for over 50 years. After the morning service there will be an old-fashioned dinner-on-the-grounds served for everyone in attendance with special games and activities for children being held until the start of the afternoon service at 2 p.m. There will be no evening service.

Pastor Mike Stanley and congregation extend a warm welcome to everyone in the area to attend these special services. For more information call 870-856-4418 or 856-4043.
