ALTON -- Ozark Action Inc. will hold the Oregon County Back to School Fair Aug. 4 at Alton Elementary School's Multipurpose Building. The fair will be held from 10 a.m. to noon and from 1 to 3 p.m.
The goal of the program is to help low income children in the county in kindergarten through eighth grade with school supplies. The program will be serving the children who attend the four Oregon County schools of Alton R-IV, Couch R-I, Oregon-Howell R-III (Koshkonong) and Thayer R-II.
"As you may be aware, schools are not financially able to furnish all of the school supplies children need. Each year the schools request a list of supplies that the children must furnish themselves. This can cause a financial burden for some families who are living on a low income or who are having a temporary financial burden. Our goal is to see that every child starts school with the necessary supplies. This enhances the child's self esteem and enhances their educational experience. We need the community's help in order to reach this goal," said Paula Miller, Oregon Country community services representative and county coordinator for the Back to School Fair.
Some of the services that will be offered are vision and hearing screenings. Division of Family Services, Oregon County Library, Oregon County Health Department and Missouri Department of Conservation will have booths at the fair.
Ozark Action is accepting donations of school supplies or cash.
