The ICC Cougars ended their basketball season with a lengthy dry spell, falling to the Melbourne Bearkatz 61-30 Feb. 27 in the Class AA Region 3 Tournament at Brockwell. The semi-final loss keeps the Cougars out of the state tournament being played at Centerpoint High School this week.

The homestanding Cougars (21-16) led Melbourne 17-16 after the first period, but fell behind by 10, 36-26, at the half.

As it turned out, a 10-point deficit was not so bad, as the Bearkatz blasted ICC in the second half, holding them to just one field goal and a pair of free throws, for four total points, on their way to big win.

Justin Burns led the Cougars with 11 points, while Robert Stephens tallied 10.

Jordan Davidson posted 21 points for Melbourne, while Levi Taylor and Cody Moser added 14 points apiece.

The Cougars made it to the semi-final round with a 56-37 win over White County Central Feb. 26.

Stephens logged 19 points for ICC, while Burns finished with 10. Allen Roberts chipped in with nine, and Jesse Dockins added eight.

Stephens, Burns and Dockins were all named to the All-Regional Team for their efforts.

The Lady Cougars (16-16) suffered a first-round loss in the regional tourney, falling 71-57 to the Newark Lady Roos Feb. 25.

Lauren Cunningham, an All-Regional Team member, paced the Lady Cougars with 26, and Mandy Haney added 12 for ICC.
