Born 2-3-1914 -- Died 10-22-2005
Melvin Earl Ford, of Oxford, Ark., son of the late Wyatt Wilson Ford and Necie Henley Ford, was born Feb. 3, 1914, in Couch, Mo. He died Oct. 22, 2005, in Calico Rock, Ark. at the age of 91 years. He was married to Gladys White on Aug. 24, 1934, in Oxford. To this union three daughters were born. He spent his life as a Baptist minister and was also a carpenter, farmer and mail carrier. He was a member of the Union Masonic Lodge for 62 years and was a member of the Concord Baptist Church.
Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Laverne and J.H. Ward of Oxford, and Kathy and Donnie Gulley of Melbourne; one sister, Lillian Tauscher of Yullee, Fla.; three brothers, Wyatt Ford, Jr. of Little Rock, Leonard Ford of Anchorage, Alaska, and Sharrel Ford of Sacramento, Calif.; eight grandchildren, Beverly Ward, Tammie Parker, Rhonda Norvold, Regina Newton, Melinda Womack, Quentina Harris, Kelby Gulley, and Gavin Gulley; eight great-grandchildren, Brandon Whitehead, Blake Whitehead, Lane Norvold, Tori Newton, Jordan Womack, Bailey Womack, Jackson Harris, and Grayson Harris; and a host of other relatives and many good friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; four brothers, Samuel Ford, Lonnie Ford, Rolla Ford and J.L. Ford; one sister, Vivian Hill Smithwick; one daughter, Nola Faye Blevins; two grandchildren, Valerie Blevins and Mark Dwayne Blevins; and one great-grandchild, Sydney Norvold.
The funeral service was held Oct. 25 at the Roman & Billy Howard Memorial Chapel in Melbourne with Elvis Sneathern and Lester Passmore officiating. Burial was in the Oxford Cemetery with arrangements under the direction of Eddie's Family Funeral Home in Melbourne, Ark.
Pallbearers were James Yancey, Doug Tanner, Darrell Ball, Darrell Sherrill, Lloyd Parker, and Billy Joe Kankey.
Honorary palbearers were Herbert Moss, Deal Davis, Larry Thomas, Obra Ward and Arvist Ford.
