THAYER -- Amending ordinances was the main topic at the Oct. 12 Thayer City Council meeting.
Two years ago, in Oregon County Circuit Court, Judge Dave Hudspeth ruled that a Thayer ordinance dealing with the issuance of liquor licenses in the city was ambiguous. At last week's council meeting the alderman amended that ordinance (50.130.3) to make it more clear and easier to follow.
A rezoning ordinance was also amended by the council. The McCullough family, which owns property on Carpenter Road in the city, wanted the property split into two parcels. Council members passed the request.
The aldermen voted to allow the police department to apply for a grant through the Missouri Highway Patrol for $9,000 to purchase a new police car. The Thayer Fire Department was represented at the meeting by Mark Arnold. The department requested two new turnout suits and some turbo nozzles for hoses. Council members voted to purchase the suits and nozzles at a cost of $600 each. The city fire department will pay half and the rural fire department will pay half.
An error in the minutes of a 2001 Thayer City Council meeting was corrected. In those minutes it said the city of Thayer would be responsible for paying for the electricity at the Tourist Information Center that is currently under construction near McDonald's. Council members voted to correct the minutes to state the city would be responsible for hooking up the electricity at the center and would waive the deposit for the electricity and water at the new building. The Thayer Chamber of Commerce will be responsible for paying the electricity.
