Tuesday, November 20, 2007

Two separate wrecks occurred within minutes of each other Nov. 19, around 7:15 a.m., on Highway 62/412, two miles west of Viola. Jackie Owens, 42, of Viola was air lifted to Baxter Regional Medical Center in Mountain Home after the 1997 F-150 pickup he was driving failed to negotiate a curve, crossed the center line and struck a tree in the northern ditch of the highway. Arkansas State Trooper Daniel Busch said Owens was charged with no seat belt, expired vehicle license and driving left of center. An IESI tractor trailer truck traveling to the Cherokee Village landfill overturned approximately 100 yards from the first wreck when the driver, Chris Arnold, swerved to miss a car driving on the center line in a curve. Arnold was not injured.
