Edward Charles Mescher, 76, of Cherokee Village, Ark., died March 13, 2008, at the White River Medical Center in Batesville, Ark. He was born March 16, 1931, in St. Louis, Mo., the son of the late Charles and Katherine Mescher.
He was united in marriage to Billy Jean Toler on June 1, 1968, in Bellville, Ill.
He was a veteran of the United States Army. He worked many years for Southwestern Bell and also worked for the St. Louis Cardinals as the head guard in the press box for 20 years. He moved to Cherokee Village from Fairview Heights, Ill, in 1989. He was a member of the Cherokee Village United Methodist Church where he served as past president of the United Methodist Men's Club.
He is survived by: his wife, Billy Jean Mescher of the home; four children, Dwayne Hayden of Fairview Heights, Dianne Buser and husband, Richard of Foothill Ranch, Calif., Jessica Mescher of Ekron, Ky., and Shane Peterson and wife, Sherry, of Jacksonville, Ark.; one sister and brother-in-law, Bertha Kay and Ralph Weidlich of St. Louis, Mo.; two grandchildren, John Buneta and Shawn Peterson; one great-grandchild; and many other relatives and dear friends. Funeral services were held March 19 at the Kassly Mortuary Chapel in Fairview Heights, Ill., with Rev. Mike Fowler officiating. Interment was in the St. John's Evangelical Cemetery in Bellefontaine Neighbors, Mo.
