James "Jay" Lafayette Weathers Jr., 90, of Batesville died June 14, 2005 in Batesville. He was born Feb. 22, 1915 in Salem, Ark., the son of Dr. J. L. Weathers and Ollie Gaston Weathers.
He was a former Sheriff and Tax Collector for Fulton County and retired as a lieutenant with the Arkansas Highway Police. He was an Army veteran, having served during World War II in the Japan Occupation Force. He was a member of the First Baptist Church, the Adult Five Sunday School Class and was a 50+ member of Salem Masonic Lodge.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Anna Lou Bryan Weathers of the home; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers -- Lloyd, Dick and Max Weathers; and one sister, Clara Benton.
The funeral service was held June 16, at the Roller-Crouch Chapel in Batesville with Bro. Keith Johnson, Dr. Gary Buckner, Bros. Terry Forrest and Eddie Cox officiating. Burial was at the Salem Cemetery in Salem, Ark., with arrangements under the direction of Roller-Crouch Funeral Home.
Honorary pallbearers were Joyce and Troy Cleaver, Leroy and Elizabeth Lacy, John Ed and Frankie Smith, Matt and Glenet Quinn, Ed and Ollie Ellison, George and Rosemary Catteu, Bill and Erma Davis, Charles and Maxine Buchanan, Adult Five Sunday School Class, Kenny and Michelle Gerhardt, Susan Ross and Lisa Furr.
