Residents of Oregon County or neighboring states that have a mother that lives in Missouri now have the opportunity to honor their mother in a special way.
The Missouri Mothers Association of American Mothers is conducting a search for a mother who will be selected as the Missouri Mother of the Year 2008. She will represent Missouri at the American Mothers' National Convention in April in Lincoln, Neb. The American Mother of the Year will be chosen from the state mothers selected from all 50 states.
Maggie Richardson, president of the Missouri Mothers Association said, "We were organized in 1933. Our purpose is to be a dedicated force to strengthen the moral and spiritual foundation of the home. We are a nonprofit and interfaith organization."
Churches and organizations are encouraged to nominate a mother for this honor. Richardson said a packet is available that contains complete instructions on how to prepare a portfolio for the nomination as well as the qualifications. She said all the information is pertinent to help judges select the one who will be the Missouri Mother.
Nominees who are not selected as the State Mother are recognized as Missouri Merit Mothers. A state awards luncheon is held each year to honor all participants.
A monument in the Maude Hall Jones Roadside Park, which is 15 miles south of Moberly, Mo., on Highway 63, displays the names of all Missouri women who have been selected as Mother of the Year.
