Drug dog tips off authorities at prison checkpoint

Tuesday, October 2, 2007

An Ozark, Ark., man was arrested when he was found in possession of marijuana and methamphetamine near the Arkansas Department of Correction in Calico Rock Sept. 30.

James K. Fisher, 43, was arrested after Izard County Deputy Gabe Sanders was tipped off by a drug dog at a prison checkpoint, according to Izard County Sheriff Tate Lawrence.

After Sanders was alerted to the whereabouts of drugs, Fisher refused to comply with authorities, so he was physically removed from the vehicle, Lawrence said.

Once Fisher was out of the vehicle, authorities found a bag containing marijuana and inside that, a second, smaller baggie containing a crystalline substance resembling meth on his person, Lawrence said.

Fisher was charged with resisting arrest and possession of a controlled substance, and as of press time he remained in the Izard County Detention Facility with additional charges pending.

Vincente R. Arrietta, 37, of Horseshoe Bend was arrested Sept. 27 for driving while intoxicated and driving on a suspended license.

He was released from authorities after posting a $3,910 bond.

Jimmy L. Wicoff, 51, of Melbourne was arrested Sept. 27 for public intoxication and disorderly conduct.

As of press time he remains in the Izard County Detention Facility.

Gregory M. Thomas, 42, of Mountain View was arrested Sept. 26 for driving while intoxicated and refusing to submit to a chemical test.

He was released from the Izard County Detention Facility that same day after posting a $2,805 bond.
