Thomas Edward "Ted" Stone, 85, formerly of Thayer, died July 3, 2005, in Kansas City, Mo. He was born Feb. 10, 1920, the son of John Henry and Josephine Davis Stone.
All of the Stones attended the Thayer Pentecostal Church 1915-1940. They enjoyed family gatherings with the Davises, Evans, Skaggs and Brazeals. They fished in Warm Fork, swam in the spring, hunted, played baseball "down in the field" and explored caves.
He cruised Front Street, hung out at the YMCA playing dominoes and 42. Kids hitched rides by jumping on cars running boards and holding on.
Among the friends he remembered were John and Bob Pitchford, the Gibsons, Smiths, "Freck" Gregory, Prestons, Garrisons, May and Roy Stayten, Joe Mitchell, the Watkins, the Sessions, Billy "Bird" Woods and Jimmy Edwards.
After retirement he liked to fish, was avid about professional golf, crossword puzzles and reading and Bill O'Reilly.
Survivors include two daughters -- Pat Stone Fisher (Robert) of Tulsa, Okla., and June Stone Parks (Bob) of Eureka Springs, Ark.; five grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
He rests in peace with his wife, Merle, John D. and his "Ma" and "Pa."
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 64 years, Merle Edwards Stone; a brother, John D. Stone and by step-siblings -- Vern Stone, Earl Stone, Ernest Stone and Bertha Stone Williford.
The funeral was July 9 at Carater Funeral Home Chapel in Thayer. Burial was in the Thayer Cemetery with arrangmens by Carter Funeral Home Inc. of Thayer.
